The aim of the Wind Jack JIP is to understand and predict the interaction of jack-up legs with the seabed during the touch-down and lift-off phase in order to better quantify the operational limits for jack up units. This is of special importance to units that frequently change position e.g. site investigation or wind turbine installation operations.
For this purpose extensive (scaled) testing was conducted and simulations run both by MARIN as well as Deltares. The results are given in reports and compounded in two tools:
- a numerical algorithm to model soil reaction
- an aNySIM to model ship movement, in which the soil reaction model is implemented.
The final results were presented during the last JIP meeting in December 2014 and participants were asked to gain experience with the tools.
The Windjack JIP was started in the summer of 2012 and is currently in its final stages.
The BlueWeek meeting is set up to share these experiences and learn from each other and identify possible follow up actions.
