This meeting is the kick-off meeting of a new Joint-Industry-Project (JIP) on Scour Protection Methods. The most common solution to protect the seabed around an offshore foundation against scour development is a scour protection consisting of loose rock: usualy an armour and a filter layer. Some guidance on how to design such protections is available. However, there is a trend to further optimize the scour protection design. Either with smaller rocks, only one grading and/or higher density rocks. Also more and more innovative systems come to the market. Although these systems often show great potential, they often still lack theoretical proof and design guidelines. In this JIP we will develop new optimized guidelines for scour protection design, both for conventional and innovative systems.
